We read and translate a few pages from a work of French Literature every class. This year we will be reading Gustave Flaubert’s Trois Contes. The text will be supplied if necessary.
Entry Criterion
The equivalent of Year 12 French. It is very useful if class members have put a few hours into preparing the next five or six pages.

An ongoing study of the Italian language, with an emphasis on grammar, leading into reading, writing and conversation. Textbooks will be supplied.
Entry Criterion
Some knowledge of Italian grammar – pronouns, simple verb conjugations and a reasonable vocabulary. Commitment and willingness to do some homework.

Course Outline
Lessons are conducted in Italian, except where grammatical points need detailed explanation. Topics are suggested each week and members are expected to prepare these to present at the next class. Participants are expected to comment and contribute to the discussion.
Entry Criterion
Members should have a good knowledge of grammar, a wide vocabulary, and some experience of speaking Italian. Class members must do the preparation suggested and be willing to contribute to the discussion.

Course Outline
Increase your word power! This is an approachable introduction to Latin, the source of a vast number of English words. A simple overview of how the language works, but with major emphasis on looking at how Latin has generated many of the everyday English words we use today. The textbook used is the popular Cambridge Latin Course, Volume 1.
Entry Criterion
No prior knowledge of Latin or any other language is required. Be interested in talking about words!
